How to defeat King Boo in Super Mario 64 DS?

I’m not looking for Luigi right now. I wanna know how to defeat the first big boo in the one ghost stage. So I killed all the little boos and got the big one and I also got the flower if that has anything to do with it. But I still don’t know what to do! Please help!

    For me all you do is backflip as king boo approaches your tail then press again while youre above king boo approaches your tail then press again while youre done.
